Tips to Alleviate Depression without Medication

Depression affects millions of people around the world, however, you do not have to take prescribed medication to alleviate some of the symptoms of depression. Here are a few tips to help you to feel a bit more like yourself whilst battling depression.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the most important remedies for depression. When you exercise you release endorphines which are also known as the “happy hormone.” Therefore, the more you exercise, the better you will feel. Try and exercise at least four times a week, for 20 to 30 minutes.

Hydration

Drinking plenty of water is very important if you want to alleviate the symptoms of depression. Depression is known to be a chemical imbalance in the brain, remaining hydrated can help to detoxify your system. Therefore, helping to re-balance the hormones in your system.

Diet

Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, try and consume at least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day. Too much junk food can just make you feel worse, therefore, try and eat healthy food and do not overeat.

Set yourself goals and tasks, if you have things to do, important things to do it will give you a sense of self-worth. So, get busy and feel better.

Talk

Do not remain silent, try, and talk to someone. A friend, a family member, or a therapist. Keeping your feelings and emotions inside will not help matters. You must have heard the saying, a problem shared is a problem halved. So talk, talk, talk.
